Classic Wednesday Night Ride - Short Loop
Every Wednesday in April

Roanoke City Parks & Rec parking lot (210 Reserve)

Leaves 6:00PM sharp!

Even though there is extra daylight, it is still not enough for the 38 mile Long Days Loop.  Therefore, the rest of September hosts the Short Days Loop, which is a quick run over to Garden City as a warm-up to then start the five-mile loop.  The ride starts at 6:00pm from the Roanoke City Parks & Rec Building on 210 Reserve.

The 5.4 mile loop rolls mostly downhill on Bandy Rd, with some twisty turns and a few short uphill jaunts.  Mayland Rd climbs to Yellow Mountain Road which continues uphill for another half mile.  Cruise on back to Goodman to start another lap!

Complete as many loops as daylight dishes out, and plan enough time to get home -  a tail light is recommended or lights.  The pace is intermediate to ultra-fast, but all are welcomed to ride at their own pace and/or break up into sub-groups.  Don't worry about getting dropped, the pack will come around again to scoop you up!

Ride leader:  ; (540) 580-7284

NEW RIDE OPTION ADDED!

Bob Bowman is now offering to lead an alternative option.

Same route, start time, just a little slower.  We will begin as a group however when necessary will split into two groups when the rate of travel warrants such a split.  Please drop Bob an RSVP by 4:00pm on a Wednesday would be appreciated.

Classic Wednesday Night Ride
Every Wednesday in Nov 2006 - Mar 2007

Leaves 6:30PM sharp!

Patrick Henry High School entrance

Urban Assault Loop

The Classic Wednesday Night Ride continues through the fall and winter with a twist.  The ride changes gears to cyclocross and mountain bikes pedaling on gravel roads, alleyways and singletrack.

Meeting at the entrance of Patrick Henry High School, the route will be determined by who shows up on what type of bike, but the concept will stay the same - have fun riding at night!

The speed and length is off-season training, but not the structured hard training found on the Classic Loop - let's leave the pain and suffering for the warm months.

Being that this will be held at night, real bicycle lights are mandatory that will burn for at least 1.5-2 hours.  Real lights are halogen or halide light systems with a rechargeable battery pack, basically, enough light so you can see where you're going!  Also, you will need a taillight since we will be on the road.  If you are in need of a light, contact ride leader Ron Glowczynski at Team El Toreo sponsor, American Flyers, the unreal bicycle shop.

Please fill out the individual RCO Release Waiver and bring it to the ride - this only has to be signed once for the calendar year or if you're already a member!  Don't forget to join the RCO gang for eats afterwards at El Toreo - more info below...
