The 2007 Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia,
VAS, Team El Toreo and the Roanoke Cycling Organization, thank all the
competitors, spectators, volunteers and sponsors for making the Mill
Mountain Time Trial another big hit!
77
racers from age 6 to 66 were challenged by 89 degree heat on the ever popular classic ascent
up to the Roanoke Star.
Although
no course records were broken, Joseph Hurt and Rachel Warner won the
King Of the Mountain competition as the fastest male and female up the
mountain for the day.
Also,
thanks to those that showed up for the RCO Fun Ride on Sunday. The
group pedaled 82 miles, tackling 9500ft of climbing just under 6 hours
with three refueling stops in the extreme 90 degree heat. The last
climb of the day up and over Cahas Mountain definitely tested our will -
this is the same 3.5mile ascent that Lance Armstrong pedaled over in the
1996 Tour DuPont which was described as a Category 2 climb. A
special thanks goes to the new Rogue Cycling Team out of Blacksburg, VA
for their refreshing enthusiasm and road skills to make the ride smooth
and enjoyable.
